Why Nigeria Mining Cadastre

Why was Nigeria Mining Cadaste created?

Global Economic downturn of the 1980’s had affected foreign exchange earnings and industrial outputs among others

Industries were heavily dependant on imported raw materials, and most still do. Dwindling foreign exchange earnings from petroleum were expanded to import raw materials and products.

In other to address the challenge, IMI, MAN and Niser originated a workshop on industrial matters in July 1983 where recommendations for the establishment of the council was made.

Our mandates

Receive, consider and dispose of applications for mineral titles and permits as well as applications for the transfer, renewal, modification, and relinquishment of mineral titles or extension

Grant, issue, suspend and (with the approval of the Minister) revoke mineral titles;

Maintain a chronological record of all applications for mineral titles in a Priority Register and General Register and maintain the cadastral registers;

Create and maintain a cartographic database of all mineral titles and applications in both paper and electronic formats (the cadastral maps).
