Departments And Units

The Agency has a Director-General/CEO as its head with five departments headed by Directors namely,

  • Registry

    The Registry Department is one of the three (3) technical departments of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) and is the custodian of all Mineral Title records in the office. The department is shouldered with the responsibility of record keeping, preparation of Mineral blocks for bidding, and Modification of Mineral Titles (Renewal, Relinquishment, Abandon/Surrender, Consolidate, Transfer, etc.), during the year under review, the following was achieved.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Unit

The ICT Unit is the Hub of Mining Cadastre Office, right from the establishment of the Agency. The Unit has been a service unit ensuring the smooth flow of work and a lot to do, In order to prepare for the full operation and migration to eMC+, the ICT unit is working with the MINDIVER to achieve its goal.

This unit manages the use of the computers, software, network, and ICT infrastructures for the efficient running of the NMCO. It is also in charge of maintaining the website and portal of the agency.

Internal Audit Unit

This unit ensures all the accounting transactions of the office are audited and conform to acceptable norms

Press Unit

The Unit is saddled with the responsibility of providing media and publicity services for its Principal. It brings to the public domain the programmes and activities of the Agency and further manages the relationship between the Agency and the Local and International media.

Public Relations and Protocol Unit

This unit is responsible for coordinating activities in the event of any occasion

Research, Development and Sustainability Unit

The Unit is a newly created component of the Office, established to increase or enhance the capacity of the office through creative and systematic work processes guided by sustainability principles within the scope and limitations of the mandate of the Mining Cadastre Office.

In July 2020, the Six (6) Zonal Mining Cadastre offices were established in the six (6) Geo-Political Zones. Each of the Zonal office is headed by a Senior staff of not less than Grade Level 12. They are supported by the newly employed staff. All the Zonal officers have assumed duty and the offices commissioned and in full use. In order to create awareness of the establishment of the MCO Zonal offices, all the Zonal Heads embarked on curtesy visits to all the Zonal Mines officers (ZMO’s) and Federal Mines Officers (FMO’s). The Zonal officers also visited other organizations to inform them of the establishment of MCO Zonal offices.

North Central – Jos Zonal office.

The office which is located within the Mining Complex, situated at No. 2 Club Road, Opposite Federal High Court, Jos, Plateau State, is headed by Mohammed Abarshi, supported by 6 newly employed staff; two (2) Geologists, two (2) Surveyors an Administrative officer and a Driver. On assumption of duty the Zonal Head engaged the staff on in-house lectures about the Mining Cadastre office and its operations to enable staff get acquainted with the day-to-day work schedule of the office including the operations of eMC+.

South-East – Enugu Zonal office.

The office is located at No. 2 Leck Avenue, opposite State CID, GRA, Enugu, in the same building housing the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and Nigerian Geological Survey Agency and is headed by Nweke Anita(Mrs) supported by 8 newly employed staff; two (2) Geologists (1) Mining Engineer, two (2) Administrative officers, an Accountant and a Driver. On assumption of duty the Zonal Head engaged the staff on in-house lectures about the Mining Cadastre office and its operations to enable staff get acquainted with the day-to-day work schedule of the office.

South-South – Benin Zonal office.

The office is headed by Chukwu Emmanuel Onovo, supported by 4 newly employed staff; one (1) Mining Engineer, one (1) Geologist an Administrative officer and a Driver. On assumption of duty the Zonal Head an opening ceremony was conducted, this was followed by cleaning and purchasing of some basic office needs.
